Mercedes Benz GLS In 2005, the Mercedes Benz SUV range was expanded with the GL. The car was the new flagship of the brand in terms of SUV models. The car was mainly aimed at the American market. Except for a few very early copies, all copies also walked off the production line in the US.

Evolution The first generation was replaced by the second in 2012, with the car undergoing an evolution. Both models were still very similar. Despite the slightly increased dimensions, they managed to reduce the weight.

From GL to GLS The second generation underwent another interim facelift in 2016. They also changed the name. Since 2016, the car is called GLS, according to Mercedes' new type designation, whereby the GLS is more emphatically positioned as an SUV alternative for the S-Class. In 2019, Mercedes-Benz presented the third and current generation of this large SUV.
